BKS installs 500 solar panels on the roof of its Belgian factory

BKS installed solar panels on the 2000m² roof of its Belgian factory last week.

This installation will enable BKS to produce 190.000 kWh/year or about 45% of its total consumption. Part of the produced electricity will be reinjected on the network during peak production hours. This reinjection will cover the needs of 24 families in the neighborhood.

In order to satisfy ever demanding customers, BKS owns more than 25 fully automated CNC machines that run 24/7. These state-of-the-art machines are operated by highly skilled technicians that are continuously trained in order to follow the latest technological developments.

Concerned about its burden on the environment, BKS decided to invest in solar panels early 2020: “We have created an “environment” task force early 2020 to reflect on our global carbon footprint. We analyzed and studied different projects and quickly arrived to the conclusion that an investment in solar panels was both interesting for the planet and -on the long term- for our finances” explains Nicolas Jacquemin, its director.

Furthermore, by the end of the year, BKS plans to compensate a significant part of its CO2 emissions that are generated by production, transports and heating: “Our task force has completed the estimation of the number of tons of CO2 we annually produce. Right now, we are studying the different compensation possibilities and are working on the actions to be implemented to reduce this CO2 production. This second point – the reduction of our emissions – is particularly important for us. It finds it roots in our commitment to offer our employees a healthy, balanced and dynamic workplace.
